“Sextacular! Sextacular!” hits off-Broadway!

Sextacular! Sextacular! gets a theatrical upgrade beginning April 2nd, 2010, as it becomes a weekly off-Broadway production at the Bleecker Street Theater!

Sextacular! Sextacular! returns with hot new numbers, brand new choreography by Rachel Klein, and a rotating cast of superstar performers!

Sextacular! Sextacular! is a re-imagining of the cabaret shows from turn-of-the-century France, but with a modern New York City rock n roll edge. Charmingly egocentric host Joey Nova (Cutie Patooties, Precious) is joined by his absinthe-conjured sidekick, The Green Fairy, as they try to petition the government for a new holiday celebrating SEX! When prudish-but-provocative government liaison Prudence Rottoncrotch is sent in to hear their proposal, Joey and The Green Fairy argue their case by seducing her with twenty titillating acts by some of the hottest performers in theatre, burlesque, and cabaret. Featuring dazzling light & fire shows, astounding aerial acts, dynamic acrobatics, tantalizing burlesque performances, glam rock cabaret, punk rock cancan girls and rocket-fueled glam rock band Starbolt 9 as the Sextacular! Sextacular! house band.

Tickets ($24.50) are available online at www.telecharge.com or by calling 212-239-6200, or at the 45  Bleecker box office.

The Joey Nova Presents blog is LIVE in three…two…one…

Hello and welcome to the Joey Nova Presents blog! Here you’ll find news about all of my theatrical productions and cabaret/burlesque shows, as well as other shows and events that I find to be exemplary.

So I guess the first place to start is the beginning. Who is Joey Nova? I started out in NYC nightlife as a party promoter. The first party that I produced was RebelRebel at Lit Lounge, a weekly tribute to glam rock that had a fun and successful three-year run. RebelRebel at Lit

Countless other parties and events followed. During this time, I had grown an appreciation for off-off Broadway and burlesque, and started including theatrical and burlesque performances at RebelRebel and other events. By the end of RebelRebel‘s run, I had grown bored with the nightlife scene, frustrated with unreliable DJs, flaky bands, and shady club owners (for the record, the owners of Lit Lounge were always the exception and were wonderful).

My love of Theatre and burlesque quickly replaced the black hole that is NYC nightlife. I started DJing and helping with promotion for Doc Wassabasco at The NEW Monday Night Burlesque, The Luvely Rae‘s Insomnia, Nik Sin‘s Metal Monday, and Lars Pluto‘s Glamrawkabilly Burlesque. I also soon found that I was able to blend my life during the day (as a designer) with my life after dark, and started working in theatrical productions as a set/prop designer, and finally as an executive producer.  It wasn’t long before I began developing my own burlesque shows. I first co-developed The Vroom! Room The Vroom Room: Oct 2009(now renamed Vroom!-Vision) with producer/performer Veronica Vroom!, which I still co-host with Kristen Lee, the first Monday of every month at The Slipper Room.

Cutie flyer 1The first show entirely produced under the umbrella of my new production company Joey Nova Presents was Cutie Patooties, a burlesque show with an emphasis on everything adorable, starring Lil’ Miss Lixx and monthly guests, and my co-host Anita Cookie!

Sextacular Jan 2010

Next and most recently was Sextacular! Sextacular!, a show that embodies everything that I love about live theatre, with a lineup both on-stage and behind-the-scenes of some of my most favorite local talent. (Stay tuned for exciting news on this show being developed as an ongoing theatrical run!)

Precious flyer 1Next up is a show called Precious,  which includes a rotating roster of performers who have gemstone names (Amber Ray, Ruby Valentine, Sapphire Jones, Marlo Marquise, and Coco la Pearl), held where else but at Sapphire Lounge in the LES.

I have a lot more to give to the stage. Some of which are happening soon, and some that are much bigger productions that will be a year or two in the making. What you can expect from me is to continue to create shows that draw from my love of art, music, & glamour, burlesque & cabaret, and the theatrical & the spectacular! I will keep you updated here on all my show happenings, and I encourage everyone to share your opinions about my productions, both good and bad.

xxx
